U16Gs Blow Havant Away!

Romsey u16 Girls played Havant in the wind and rain courtesy of Storm Freya.
Push back was 10.00am and Romsey were quick into their stride with Clara H and  Jess G combining well in Midfield to get Romsey up the pitch.
Tessa D made one of her trade mark fast breaks forward and found Anna R in the D who turned well and slipped a super pass into Ella M at the back post who shot narrowly wide.
This spurred Havant on and they made a succession of breaks forward only to be foiled by a resilient Romsey defence with great tackling from Alex O and Molly O. Romsey regained composure and started to pass the ball more quickly with Grace M and Emily J using the width of the pitch well.
Jess W made a great run down the right feeding the ball into the D , Havant initially defended well but the loose ball was picked up by Tessa D who drove back into the D and shot with power to send the ball past the Havant goalkeeper 1-0!
Romsey were on top now and a succession of shot corners followed , fizzing injections from Katie S were met by Liz F who had two shots that narrowly flew past the right hand post.
It was not long before Romsey got another goal with good work by Tessa D to grab her second goal. 2-0! Half time came and went and Romsey new the next goal was important.
Havant started with an attack which was snuffed out with great work from Antonia L who fed the ball into midfield for Jess G to make a strong run down the right which produced a short corner. Katie S injected smartly again and Liz F reversed a pass to Tessa who shot but was saved by the keeper and deflected into the path of Anna R at the back post who calmly slotted the ball home. 3-0!
Within minutes Romsey were on the attack again and Jess W got free in the D to slot home for number 4!
Romsey were comfortable at this stage but a tactical change from Havant brought immediate success , they pushed another attacker forward to put pressure on the dominant Alex O in defence. This created an overload and Havant were through on goal and despite a great diving attempt from Daisy R to stop the ball they scored 4-1!
For the first time in the match Romsey were under a bit of pressure but a tactical change themselves with Katie S dropping back to help the defence  kept Havant at bay for the remainder of the match.
Final Score Romsey  4 – 1 Havant
Player of the match – Alex O ,  strong defending throughout.

Romsey out gunned by league leaders!

Romsey U16 girls played league leaders Petersfield on Sunday 20th of January on a beautiful sunny morning at HCS.

Push back was 11.30am and Romsey were determined not to fall to a 7-0 defeat against Petersfield as they did on the first game of the season.

Petersfield are a strong team and started so. Romsey were forced into some early defensive work and Alex O and Molly O had to be sharp  to deny Petersfield.

The Romsey midfield were struggling to find space despite good work down the Left from JessG and Emily J

Midway  through the half Petersfield pressure paid of and they broke quickly and scored. 1-0!

Shortly after that they were pressing again and despite dogged defending from Antonia L and Katie S they found a way through to make it 2-0.

Romsey were digging deep now and the midfield with Clara H and Liz F started to put some passes together, one found its way to Anna R who turned smartly and fed a lovely through ball to Grace M who had made a lovely run and found herself one on one with the keeper , she made a great angle for the shot which beat the keeper but agonisingly hit the post.

Halftime came and the Romsey were determined to make a match of it in the second half.

They started brightly with Tessa D making a couple of great runs which produced shots and two good saves from the Petersfield keeper.

Romsey were knocking at the door and before long after another run from Tessa D ,  Grace M came in at the back post and calmly slotted  the ball home 2-1!

The game had now reached a critical spell and Petersfield upped the level again putting huge pressure on the Romsey defence , they had a succession of short corners which produced great blocks from Molly O  and Alex O. Jess W had dropped back to help the defence and produced two vital clearances.

Daisy R in goal also was forced into making a fantastic double save but eventually the Petersfield pressure told and they broke through 3-1!

Romsey heads did not go down , although Petersfield came again and Daisy R was called into action time after time and with 10 mins to go Petersfield struck again putting the match beyond Romsey.

Final score Romsey 1-4 Petersfield

A Gritty Romsey performance , but the league leaders prevailed.

U16 Girls Give NonEarly Gifts To The Forest !

Romsey under 16 girls played New Forest away on Sunday 9th of December . It was a windy cold morning  and push back was 10.30amprompt .
New Forest made a strong start and pushed Romsey back to the edge of their D and they had to sustain a number of attacks in the first 10 minutes. The defence were very strong with super interceptions and tackling from Alex O , Antonia L and Ellie E.
Romsey started to apply some pressure themselves and wingers Jess G and Grace M made some great runs to get Romsey up the pitch. Romsey forced two short corners in quick succession and Liz F forced a good save from the Forest keeper.
New Forest regained their composure and came again with some good passing moves up the pitch and on one attack broke into the D with only the Romsey keeper to beat,  Daisy R was off her line in a flash and made a fantastic diving smother save to deny the Forest forward.
Daisy R was called into action again within minutes and made a super save to deflect the ball round the post . Romsey were having to defend hard to stay in the match with midfielders Emily J and Katie S  working back brilliantly to help the defence.
Half time 0-0 !
Romsey were working very hard and they were in this match , Liz F was pushing balls forward and finding Tessa D who was always a willing runner but Romsey just could not find a breakthrough. Anna R was working very hard up front and coming back to help the midfield with some great tackling and then passing the ball up field intelligently.
New Forest were getting stronger as the match went on and Ella M moved into the centre of the pitch to help and made some great interceptions.
Daisy R was called into action again with another great save and the defence again mopped up another Forest attack. Forest then got a short corner with only a few minutes to go and it was beautifully taken and  a sweet shot flew into the bottom left corner and there was nothing the defence or Daisy could do about that one. 1-0
The match finished minutes later and New Forest had been made to work for this victory , well played both teams.
Player of the match – Alex Orak  , strong defending and all round play
Mention in dispatches – Daisy R , fine goal keeping performance

U16 Girls Cup Heartache

Romsey U16 Girls faced a stern Challenge on Remembrance Sunday against a very strong Salisbury side.

The match started at 2.15pm prompt after a well observed minutes silence.

Romsey started briskly and were quick into the tackle with Clare H winning the ball in midfield and working the ball to Grace M who was working hard to advance the play down the right.

Salisbury were strong defensively and repelled the attack and started to apply pressure immediately, their passing was crisp and expansive and Romsey had to be on their mettle to contain them with excellent defending from Antonia L and Ellie E in the full back positions.

Romsey then had a break with Tessa D making a great run down the wing forcing the Salisbury defence and keeper into work.

Salisbury now found themselves under pressure and the Romsey midfield were working hard with Jess G; pushing the ball up to Jess W who was making a great run into space. Romsey forced a defensive error from Salisbury and Anna R stole in to finish smartly in the corner 1:0 Romsey!

This spurred Salisbury on and they really got the passing and moving together and Romsey were under real pressure and faced a succession of short corners which saw fantastic and brave defending from Mollie O and Katie S.

There was five minutes to half time and Salisbury just kept coming Daisy R was making save after save but finally Romsey were breached and Salisbury scored 1:1.

The second half started and Romsey were putting some good passes together and Liz F was trying hard to get Romsey up the pitch. Salisbury picked up from where they left off and it was not long before they scored a fine team worked goal. To make matters worse they then got a quick third goal and were really in the ascendancy.

Romsey did not give up and all the players were working really hard to stem the flow Emily J worked back and made a great interception, Daisy R came out of goal to make a wonderful smothering save taking the ball and the attacking player, both showing 100% commitment.

Alas Romsey could not stop Salisbury scoring 3 more goals to make the final score 6:1, however Romsey worked very hard and defended extremely well to keep the scoreline respectable.

Well played Salisbury!

U16Gs sail past Havant

Romsey played Havant at HMS Temeraire in Old Portsmouth with the spinnaker tower as their backdrop.

Push Back was 1pm and Romsey started the match well with Tessa D making a break down the right and forcing herself into the D before shooting wide. Romsey continued to work hard and were passing the ball well in midfield with good work Katie S, Emily J and Grace M.

Havant were quick on the break and the Romsey defence had to be solid with Alex O, Ellie E and Mollie O snuffing out any chances they had. Romsey picked the ball up in Midfield and drove forward and Anna R put a lovely pass through to Tessa D who finished clinically 1:0 Romsey!

This spurred Havant on and they grew into the game and were starting to create chances and Daisy R was put to the test and made nice couple of stops to keep Havant at bay.

However eventually they broke through and scored 1:1, Romsey seemed to be stunned as they had been the better team, so much so with only a few seconds to go in the half Havant scored again 2:1 Havant!

After a good half time team talk  Romsey started the second half full of determination, the midfield with Liz F and Clara H were finding their passing game and picking out Jess W who was making some great runs into space, the pressure was building and Grace M was making some great drives down the right wing. It was not long before Grace M found herself in the D and put away a loose ball to equalise! 2:2

Now with ten minutes left and all to play for Havant were on the attack again but there was no way past the Romsey defence with great tackles from Antonia L and Molly O. Alex O was reading the game well and drove Romsey out of defence with Ella M working hard in midfield and breaking into the D and shooting but only to see the ball come off the post.

Romsey had a short corner which was executed well and Liz F smashed a shot which hit the back of the net! the whistle went but not for a goal the ball had not come out of the D, what a shame.  Time was now running out and Romsey Midfield were hunting the ball down and as we entered the last minute of play a through ball found Tessa D who had made a great run and under pressure she made no mistake and slotted the ball home! 3:2 Romsey!

A fantastic result and great match to watch , the whole team gave 100% and deserved the win .

Player of match Liz F- Great passing today well done!

U16 Girls edged out in tight battle

Romsey hosted Southampton on Sunday 14th of October.

Heavy overnight and morning rain meant for a damp start to proceedings , the first half was very tight with the best chances falling to Romsey and attackers Neve A , Jess G and Anna R were regularly getting into the D but the Southampton’s goal keeper was on good form snuffing out several chances .

Romseys defence was very strong with good work from Alex O and Katie S ably assisted by Ellie E , Zara M and Antonia L .They were regularly making some excellent interceptions and feeding the ball in midfield where Clara H and Liz F were pushing the ball forward well .

The half finished with no score but Romsey were on top . The second half got underway and Romsey carried on in the same vain winning a succession of short corners after some great work down the right wing from Grace M .

It wasn’t long before the break through came with great battling work from Jess G which resulted in a ball crossing the face of the goal where Ella M had taken up a superb position to calmly slot the ball home. 1-0 to Romsey !

This spurred Southampton on and now they were looking the most dangerous they had all match , they were putting the Romsey defence under more pressure and brought a couple good saves from Romsey goal keeper Daisy R. Unfortunately a goal mouth scramble ended with Southampton scoring. 1-1.

Romsey tried to regain the momentum which saw good work in the midfield from Emily J working the ball well to Neve A who almost weaved her way through into the D.

Time was running out and Romsey were caught out on the break and the Southampton forwards poured forward and with only 2 minutes to go they got a short corner . They worked it well and had a shot which went through a crowd of players and agonisingly crossed the line , visibly the Romsey players heads went down , it was a cruel way to loose the match after all the effort they had put in .

Well played Southampton and unlucky Romsey , but a good match to watch .

Player of the match – Jess G , good battling up front !

U16 Girls Soggy Sunday

Romsey under16 girls traveled to Petersfield in awful wet and windy conditions for their first game of the season .

The team was bolstered with the addition of four U14 girls playing up , Neve A, Zara M, Katie R and Suzie H.  The first half was under way and Romsey were soon on the attack with Clara H and Ella M advancing through the midfield well and Neve A put the Petersfield defence under pressure with some good attacking play.

This prompted Petersfield into action and a series of attacks came from the left winger who had electric pace. Romseys defence held firm with fantastic tackles from Zara M and Alex O ably supported by Antonia L and Ellie E .

Romsey tried to build again down the right with Grace M and Katie R linking up well but again the Petersfield defence foiled another attack. Petersfield broke again with their speedy winger and before you could blink they took the lead with a nicely taken finish.

Petersfield were now on top and before half time they managed to score two more to give them a 3-0 halftime lead .

The second half started and Romsey pushed forward with Jess G working hard down the line and getting the ball into the D creating another chance for Romsey but great defending from Petersfield again .  Petersfield broke again and again and scored another quick two goals , however the Romsey team kept going and were still attacking and Anna R was almost through on goal before being pulled down by a Petersfield defender (it was one of those games ) .

Romsey were still defending very well Susie H , Ellie E along with Alex G made some great interceptions and Antonia L made a super last gasp tackle however it could not stop Petersfield adding to there score . As much as the midfield and forwards were pushed on by Clara H they just could not get the ball over the goal line  , however it was 100% effort all round and the scoreline was not a complete reflection on the game . Pertersfield 7 -0 Romsey

Player of the Match – Clara H , well played !
